Allergies
Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance — such as pollen, bee venom or pet dander — or a food that doesn’t cause a reaction in most people.
Your immune system produces substances known as antibodies. When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn’t. When you come into contact with the allergen, your immune system’s reaction can inflame your skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system.
The severity of allergies varies from person to person and can range from minor irritation to anaphylaxis — a potentially life-threatening emergency. While most allergies can’t be cured, treatments can help relieve your allergy symptoms.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help Allergies:
A case study involving a 7-year-old boy suffering chronic colds, allergies, and asthma since the age of 5 months, who was subsequently helped with chiropractic, was documented in the August 17, 2009 issue of the scientific periodical, the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal and Family Health.
In this study the young boy’s parents explained that their son had been suffering from his problems since age 5, and was now taking the medications Alavert daily for allergies and Albuterol for asthma as needed. The child also required nebulizer treatments for his asthmatic episodes. Additionally steroid injections were also used “regularly”. Because of his illnesses he missed 1-2 days of school per month. He also had monthly visits to the medical doctor for all his health issues.
Finally, his parents brought him to a chiropractor to see if he could be helped. The chiropractic examination revealed multiple postural abnormalities and changes in the boy’s ranges of spinal movement. Additionally areas of the spine felt abnormal to the doctor’s touch. These findings are all indicative of spinal subluxations. Subluxations are when bones of the spine are positioned incorrectly and create pressure or irritation on nerves. This causes changes in the function of the nervous system and can result in a variety of health issues depending on the severity of the nerve system interference and the areas of the nervous system involved.
Specific chiropractic care was initiated on the boy at the initial frequency of 3 visits per week for the first month of care. Within two weeks of the child’s first chiropractic adjustment, the patient’s mother indicated that her son no longer was dependent on his prescription medication for allergies, so they decided to discontinue them on their own. His parents also reported that his frequency and severity of the asthma attacks had greatly improved, and he no longer required his nebulizer treatments since beginning chiropractic care.
According to the study records within 3 months of the initiation of chiropractic care, the boy’s mother reported that all the young boy’s initial complaints were addressed successfully. The child continued chiropractic wellness care, and after a 16 month follow up, it was noted that the boy experienced only 1-2 minor colds or sinus infections and required the use of his nebulizer on only two occasions. Neither the patient nor his mother reported any adverse reactions to the chiropractic care.
On May 7, 2009 a story was run on the ABC affiliate, KSPR out of Springfield Missouri, which featured help for allergies through chiropractic. In this story Jami Lynn Lilly was an allergy sufferer who always had problems during the spring in Missouri. Her allergies would give her sinus problems and cause her eyes to water. She commented, “I get really bad sinus infections, for weeks I just look like I’m bawling all the time”
Jami finally decided to go to a chiropractor for her problem. After her first visit she reported improvement. She described the experience by saying, “He adjusted me one time for it, two three days my nose just drained and then I was fine after that.”
Jami’s chiropractor, Dr. Baca, was also interviewed in the news story and he raised an interesting question. “If there’s an allergy floating around out there what makes one person susceptible to it, when it doesn’t make all of us susceptible.” He then explained that the nervous system is the key. He stated, “Your nervous system controls every aspect of your body, including your immune system.”
The story noted that the nervous system is the master controller of the body. The spine protects the spinal cord thus protecting the messages that are carried over the nervous system. According to the article, Dr. Baca explained that, “If one of the vertebrae on your spine is out of place it could be putting pressure or irritating one of your nerves. Maybe the nerve that controls your sinuses, your head, your throat or your immune system.”
He further explained that this could be the reason why one person is susceptible to allergies while another in the same environment is not, “This person’s immune system isn’t functioning as well as this person’s immune system so it can’t fight the allergen off like it should.”
Jami explained that she never knew that chiropractic could help her allergies. She said, “I never knew it; I just came because my neck was bothering me.” The news story concludes by noting that. “Jami is a big believer now. She’s allergy free and passing the word on about allergies and chiropractic.
ANXIETY/DEPRESSION
Experiencing occasional anxiety is a normal part of life. However, people with anxiety disorders frequently have intense, excessive and persistent worry and fear about everyday situations. Often, anxiety disorders involve repeated episodes of sudden feelings of intense anxiety and fear or terror that reach a peak within minutes (panic attacks).
These feelings of anxiety and panic interfere with daily activities, are difficult to control, are out of proportion to the actual danger and can last a long time. You may avoid places or situations to prevent these feelings. Symptoms may start during childhood or the teen years and continue into adulthood.
Examples of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety disorder (social phobia), specific phobias and separation anxiety disorder. You can also have more than one anxiety disorder.
There are also different types of depressive disorders, and while there are many similarities among them, each depressive disorder has its own unique set of symptoms.
The most commonly diagnosed form of depression is Major Depressive Disorder. In 2015, around 16.1 million adults aged 18 years or older in the U.S. had experienced at least one major depressive episode in the last year, which represented 6.7 percent of all American adults. Depression is the leading cause of disability in the United States among people ages 15-44.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Anxiety/Depression:
A recent study, published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research describes a 19-year old female diagnosed with General Anxiety Disorder who suffered from organic and psychiatric symptoms for two years.
After a four-month course of chiropractic care, the young woman reported an 80% reduction in her anxiety symptoms, including a 90% decrease in her headaches. The patient was able to resume a normal lifestyle without resorting to prescription or over-the-counter drugs.
The patient’s previous medical treatment had included multiple emergency room visits; private specialists; and a rotation of drug therapies including Paxil, Xanax, and Celexa — which all failed to manage her symptoms.
The drug therapies commonly used in treatment for mental health disorders have recently come under closer scrutiny because of their poor rate of effectiveness and potentially deadly side effects, including increased suicidal tendencies in young people.
A study published in the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research on August 29, 2011 documents a case of chiropractic helping a patient suffering with depression, anxiety and pain. The study notes that the patient had multiple health issues, and that correction of vertebral subluxations under chiropractic care allowed the patient to show significant improvements in many areas.
According to the study, mood disorders, such as depression, affect about 16% of the population, and according to the World Health Organization, is the fourth leading contributor to the global burden of disease. Currently, the most common medical treatment is drugs which the study notes are at best only 50% effective in helping treat the symptoms of depression.
In this case, a 58-year-old man went to the chiropractor with primary complaints of long-standing, left shoulder pain that went down his left arm and between his shoulder blades. The man reported that he had never had this type of pain, and that it was getting progressively worse.
The man’s history showed that he had two severe car accidents requiring hospitalization and one required knee replacement and facial surgery. He had been medically diagnosed with high cholesterol, depression, and anxiety and was on pain medication, anxiety medication, and high cholesterol medication for the previous ten years.
A chiropractic examination consisting of palpation, range of motion, postural analysis, ands nerve testing was conducted, and each showed positive findings for vertebral subluxation. The study noted that subluxations “…can lead to a myriad of physiological changes.” The author continued by reporting, “These physiological changes can cause many symptoms over time and influence health negatively.”
Chiropractic care was initiated at a rate of three visits per week with a total of 39 visits over a 3 month period. Specific spinal adjustments were given based upon the findings during care. After the initial three months, a reassessment was performed in which the man self-reported that he was feeling better. He noted that he had only a little shoulder or neck pain remaining at that time.
The man also reported that he felt happy for the first time in about ten years. Specific diagnostic questionnaires were given to measure depression and anxiety at both the initiation of care, and at the time of the follow-up. Each of these specific tests showed a marked improvement in their scores, a fact that was reinforced by the patient’s own perception of his well being. The study reported that the patient stopped taking his pain medication and initiated discussions with his MD to work toward discontinuing all his medications.
A case study published in the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research on June 20, 2013, reports on the results of a case series showing chiropractic helping patients with depression and anxiety. This case series was looking for follow up on previous surveys showing that chiropractic patients felt chiropractic care helped with their mental and emotional states.
The authors begin by reporting that a previous study showed that in a survey of 2818 patients who completed chiropractic care, 76% of those patients reported a mental/emotional improvement, as well as positive changes in stress and life enjoyment over a period of several months following the chiropractic care. Additional prior studies also showed chiropractic care assisting patients with these types of mental health disorders.
This case series study involved six patients who responded to an Internet posting looking for people suffering from mild to moderate depression or anxiety who wished to be a part of a study involving chiropractic. The patients were not under any psychotherapy at the time and were given tests using standard scales of psychological testing to determine and measure their mental state prior to and after the chiropractic care.
All six of the participants also suffered from a variety of problems including musculoskeletal pains, asthma, hypertension, gastrointestinal issues, and sleep disorders. Those who were taking medications made no changes to their medications during the study to rule out any improvement due to medication.
For the purposes of this study, care was limited to only 12 chiropractic visits over a six week period. A specific analysis and form of chiropractic adjusting was used to correct nerve system interference from subluxations. To measure patient progress, a number of protocols were used both to monitor the chiropractic correction of subluxations as well as to see any improvement in depression or anxiety.
The results of the study were recorded for five of the six participants as one participant left the program due to a family emergency. The remaining five participants all showed positive results in most of the areas that the researchers measured. All five also showed positive test results for a decrease in nerve interference from subluxation. All five participants showed a “…significant decrease in depressive symptom ratings.” All five measured a “…significant decrease in anxiety.”
Additionally, four of the five participants who completed the study also reported a self feeling of improvement with their depression, enough to state that they would recommend this type of care to others with depression. Four of the five participants also reported significant improvements in the other health issues and problems they were suffering from at the beginning of the study.
In their conclusion the authors wrote, “The results provide tentative support for the effectiveness of upper cervical (neck) chiropractic care for anxiety and depression symptoms.” They also stated, “The present study found reduction in anxiety and depression symptoms and reduction in overall psychological distress among individuals with mild to severe depression, anxiety or both.”
ASTHMA
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Asthma:
Thousands of asthma sufferers have found relief in a chiropractic office, and now some studies are supporting this phenomenon. In a 1997 study published in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research, doctors placed 81 asthmatic children under chiropractic care. These children were evaluated after 60 days of chiropractic care. The results were simply amazing! There was a significant improvement in the child’s asthma impairment score in 90.1% of the children, and many of the children voluntarily decreased their medications. In a 1995 study published in Chiropractic Pediatrics, seven out of eight children who were under chiropractic care were able to reduce or eliminate their asthma medication.

AUTO IMMUNE CONDITIONS
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Auto Immune Conditions:
The July 26, 2012, issue of the Annals of Vertebral Subluxation Research, discusses a documented case study of a woman suffering with Rheumatoid arthritis, whose quality of life was dramatically improved through chiropractic.
The authors of the study begin by explaining that, “Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) is an idiopathic autoimmune disease categorized by systemic inflammation primarily of joints and soft tissue”. They also note that previous studies show that RA is 2 to 3 times more common in women than men. The authors also report that according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it was estimated that in 2005, 1.293 million adults aged 18 and older suffered from RA.
In this case a 54-year-old woman entered a chiropractic health center specifically for care of her Rheumatoid Arthritis. At that time, the woman was complaining of severe pain in both her hands and her fingers. She also had swelling of the joints and muscles in her hands, fingers, knees, feet and toes. In a self rating pain scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the worst, the woman rated herself as a 9 out of 10 if she was not taking medication and a 3 out of 10 when medicated.
The woman had been diagnosed 7 years earlier with RA. By the time she came to the chiropractor, her condition had gotten so bad that many mornings she awoke with pain that made standing erect very difficult. The study authors also reported that when walking, she often had to hold onto the wall due to the severe magnitude of her pain.
A chiropractic examination was performed consisting of several tests including x-rays and a surface EMG study. The determination of the presence of subluxations was made and a specific course of chiropractic care was initiated.
The results for this woman were life changing. By the fourth month of chiropractic care, she was able to discontinue taking her medications. By the tenth month of care, her pain from the RA had reduced to a 1 out of 10 without her having to take any medications. The woman later reported that she was able to dance, exercise, and walk up her stairs without any pain.
In their discussions the authors wrote, “After seven years of management in the medical model the patient exhausted her options and was ready to take control of her health. The patient was able to gradually stop taking medication for pain and inflammation and she is now drug-free. This patient made dietary changes and underwent corrective chi The March 15, 2012 issue of the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research documents a case of a patient being helped with fibromyalgia through chiropractic care. According to the U.S. National Library of Medicine website, “Fibromyalgia is a common syndrome in which a person has long-term, body-wide pain and tenderness in the joints, muscles, tendons, and other soft tissues. Fibromyalgia has also been linked to fatigue, sleep problems, headaches, depression, and anxiety.”
The authors of the study begin by reporting that fibromyalgia is the most common cause of widespread pain, and is more common in women, who are 10 to 20 times more likely to have fibromyalgia than men. The authors also report that it is estimated that there are between 3 to 6 million people believed to be currently suffering with the disease.
In this case, a 64-year-old woman went to the chiropractor suffering from fibromyalgia which had been medically diagnosed six years earlier. In addition to the fibromyalgia, the woman was also suffering with a large variety of health problems that included sleep apnea, loss of coordination, glaucoma, degenerative disc disease, arthritis, depression, photophobia (sensitivity to light), indigestion, changes in her bowel habits, frequent urination, sinusitis, allergies, shoulder pain, mid back pain, low back pain, high cholesterol, hypertension, and neck pain.
The woman in this case study was on a number of medications, and her health issues were severely affecting her daily activities. It was noted in the history that as a teenager, she did injure herself by falling off a horse. There were no other reported traumas or accidents.
A chiropractic examination was performed which included palpation, posture analysis, thermal readings, and x-rays. The results of the exam were that subluxations were present causing nervous system interference. A course of specific chiropractic adjustments was initiated to correct the subluxations found.
After several weeks of care, the study reports that the woman stated that her neck and shoulder pain had improved, her middle back pain had also improved, as well as her eyesight. After 3 months of care, she reported that she was 80% better. Follow up x-rays showed a considerable improvement in the curve in her neck, which was completely straight on the initial x-ray. The study authors also documented that the woman reported having a much better mental outlook, much more energy, her general strength had improved, and she was able to stand and walk for longer periods of time with no pain.
Chiropractic care to realign the spine to allow for better function.”
CHRONIC PAIN
Pain is your body’s normal reaction to an injury or illness, a warning that something is wrong. When your body heals, you usually stop hurting.
But for many people, pain continues long after its cause is gone. When it lasts for 3 to 6 months or more, it’s called chronic pain. When you hurt day after day, it can take a toll on your emotional and physical health.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Chronic Pain
Here’s scientific research explaining how Chiropractic helps Back Pain:
Numerous studies over past years have shown that chiropractic care was beneficial for patients with acute and short-term back pain.
The May 2001 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reported a study on the effect of chiropractic care on patients with recurrent or long-lasting back pain.
A total of 19 chiropractors participated in this study. 158 patients were studied, all of whom had long lasting or reoccurring lower back pain. All subjects did not have had any chiropractic care in the 6 months prior to the study.
The results showed that about 50% of patients reported that they had “improved” at the 4th visit. By the 12th visit, nearly 75% of the patients reported that “improvement” had occurred. The researchers concluded that, “There seems to be a distinct recovery pattern among chiropractic patients with relatively long-lasting or recurrent lower back pain.”
Chiropractic also helps patients with Neck Pain:
A study published in the December 2005 scientific journal, Clinical Chiropractic, showed that chiropractic helped subjects in the study with neck pain. The study explained that more than 70% of people in the world will experience neck pain at some point in their lifetimes.
21 people were divided into two groups for the study. One group included people who had neck pain for less than 7 weeks and the other group included people who had chronic neck pain for more than 7 weeks.
The 21 patients who completed the study all received chiropractic care.
The results showed that for the group of people with neck pain for less than 7 weeks, all the patients experienced a decrease in pain with 6 of the 7 reporting a significant improvement. In the group of people with chronic neck pain of longer than 7 weeks, 12 out of experienced improvement.
This means that almost 86% of patients experienced a huge improvement in neck pain because of chiropractic care!
The researchers concluded that, “The results demonstrate a positive effect for chiropractic on symptoms of neck pain. The more chronic the presentation, the more treatments were required to achieve asymptomatic status.”
Chiropractic can also help get rid of headaches!
Evidence reports released by the Foundation for Chiropractic Education and Research show the effectiveness of chiropractic care for people with “tension headaches”.
A story released on February 2001 reported a study done at Duke University several years earlier. In the study, many different types of physical and behavioral treatments were used for patients with headaches. Chiropractic care was specifically compared to amitriptyline, a common medication used for headaches.
In this study, the staff at the Duke Center drafted an evidence report with a peer review from a panel of 25 reviewers, including researchers and clinicians in chiropractic.
The results of the study showed that chiropractic was highly effective for patients with tension headaches. When compared with the drug amitriptyline, chiropractic and the drug had similar short term effects during the episode. However, unlike chiropractic, the drug carried with it an adverse reaction rate in 82% of the patients.
The most profound effects of the study were seen after the care was discontinued. The patients who were on drug therapy essentially returned to the same state as before. However, the patients who were under chiropractic care continued to show sustained reduction in headache frequency and severity even after the chiropractic care was discontinued!
This study clearly shows that chiropractic is not just a short-term therapy or treatment; but rather, it gets to the cause of the problem by allowing the body to heal itself.
Chiropractic is a treatment that lasts beyond actual care!

DIABETES
Diabetes is a number of diseases that involve problems with the hormone insulin. Normally, the pancreas (an organ behind the stomach) releases insulin to help your body store and use the sugar and fat from the food you eat. Diabetes can occur when the pancreas produces very little or no insulin, or when the body does not respond appropriately to insulin. As yet, there is no cure. People with diabetes need to manage their disease to stay healthy.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Diabetes:
Here are the facts:
Spinal nerve interference has been documented in the scientific literature to be the cause of metabolic problems including diabetes. Based on the statistics by the Committee on Research of the International Chiropractic Association and Kale Network, 67.5% of the diabetic mellitus patients were well or much improved, and 22% were slightly improved after receiving chiropractic care. This means that 89.5% of the patients had improvements!

DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS
Common digestive problems include heartburn/GERD, IBD, and IBS. Symptoms may include bloating, diarrhea, gas, stomach pain, and stomach cramps. Treatment includes a combination of medication and lifestyle changes.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Digestive Problems:
A case study published on January 2, 2012 in the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health documents the case of a baby girl who was suffering from developmental delay, colic and GERD, and who was helped by chiropractic care.
According to the US National Library of Medicine, Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD) is a condition in which the stomach contents (food or liquid) leak backwards from the stomach into the esophagus (the tube from the mouth to the stomach). This action can irritate the esophagus, causing heartburn, and other symptoms.
In this case, a mother brought her 15-month-old daughter to a chiropractor after noticing that the girl was developmentally behind where she should be. These developmental issues included not standing, walking or talking appropriately for her age level. The baby was only crawling, and could not say more that two-syllable words.
The study reported that, previously, the mother had brought her baby to the chiropractor at the age of five months. At that time, the baby was suffering from GERD and colic. These issues were both resolved within three chiropractic adjustments. The study was recorded later when the child was 15 months of age and was suffering from the developmental delay issues.
A chiropractic examination revealed subluxations in the upper neck. Specific adjustments were initiated once a week for a 19-week period. The results showed that by the third adjustment the child was walking with some assistance. The study reported that by the 6th visit, the child was walking by holding on to a table and had added words to her vocabulary. By the 9th visit, she had taken 6 steps by herself and increased her vocabulary by three more words.
An update assessment was done on the 19th visit. At this time, the girl was 19 months of age. She had improved her walking and was now at the level of a 12-month-old. Her speech was at the proper developmental level for her age, and she no longer had any signs of other developmental delays.
From the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health, comes a study published on June 7, 2012 following the case of an infant with constipation being helped by chiropractic care. The authors noted that constipation accounts for 3% of visits to general pediatricians, and 25% of visits to pediatric gastroenterologists. The authors also report that an estimated 1.7 million US children suffered from constipation in a 2-year period from 2003 to 2004.
In this case, a 3 week old infant boy was brought to the chiropractor with a chief complaint of constipation. The history notes that according to his mother, her baby had bowel movements at only 2-day intervals since birth. The baby also suffered from irritability and frequent waking from sleep that was attributed to acid reflux. The boy was being breast fed, but still had the issues. The boy’s pediatrician placed the child on a nonprescription medication for the treatment of heartburn and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
A chiropractic examination was performed which included visual inspection, static and motion palpation. A determination was made that the child had subluxations at both the top and bottom of his spine. Specific chiropractic adjustments were given to initiate correction of the nerve system interference caused by the infant’s subluxations.
The results as reported in the case study noted that the infants improvement was immediate. The authors wrote, “His mother was very excited to report that her child had a bowel movement on the day following his first chiropractic adjustment and following each feeding.” The authors also recorded that, “The patient was also able to sleep longer during the night with less wake ups, crying, and general irritability.”
The study authors reviewed several other previous studies documenting chiropractic helping patients with constipation. In their conclusion they wrote, “This case report provides supporting evidence that patients with constipation may benefit from subluxation-based chiropractic care.”
Research, published in the November 2002 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) demonstrates that chiropractic care may be effective in helping patients with allergies and Crohn’s Disease. The results of those studied showed long term remission and alleviation of symptoms in both allergy and Crohn’s Disease.
Crohn’s disease causes inflammation in the small intestine. Crohn’s disease usually occurs in the lower part of the small intestine, called the ileum, but it can affect any part of the digestive tract, from the mouth to the anus. The inflammation extends deep into the lining of the affected organ. The inflammation can cause pain and can make the intestines empty frequently, resulting in diarrhea. Crohn’s disease is an inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), the general name for diseases that cause inflammation in the intestines. Crohn’s disease affects men and women equally and seems to run in some families. About 20 percent of people with Crohn’s disease have a blood relative with some form of IBD, most often a brother or sister and sometimes a parent or child. Crohn’s disease may also be called ileitis or enteritis.
In the research 57 patients were divided into two groups. One group was a control group that received only standard medical care for their condition. The second group consisted of 17 patients who also received their standard medical care but additionally received chiropractic care. This group of 17 patients received spinal adjustments in order to reduce the vertebral subluxations in the thoracic and lumbar regions of their spine. The control group did not receive spinal adjustments.
The researchers found that vertebral subluxations were a common and characteristic finding in patients with allergies and Crohn’s disease. The results showed that 12 of the 17 patients who received spinal adjustments, showed long-term and stable remission of their symptoms while 9 experienced an alleviation effect. The researchers concluded, “According to the results of this study the possibility may be considered that chronic nerve compression secondary to vertebral subluxation in the thoracic and lumbar regions had a significant effect on the immune function of these allergy and Crohn’s disease patients.”

FIBROMYALGIA
Fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Fibromyalgia
The March 15, 2012 issue of the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research documents a case of a patient being helped with fibromyalgia through chiropractic care.
In the case, a 64-year-old woman suffering from fibromyaliga went to the chiropractor.
A series of chiropractic examinations were performed including palpation, posture analysis, thermal readings, and X-Rays. The results of the exam showed that subluxations were present and were causing nervous system interference. A course of specific chiropractic adjustments was initiated to correct the subluxations.
After several weeks of care, the study reports that the woman stated that her neck and shoulder pain had improved, her middle back pain had also improved, as well as her eyesight. After 3 months of care, she reported that she was 80% better. Follow up X-Rays showed a considerable improvement in the curve in her neck. The study authors also documented that the woman reported having a much better mental outlook, much more energy, her general strength had improved, and she was able to stand and walk for longer periods of time with no pain.

Not working and on disability, it was too hard to raise my 7 year old son because I have no energy, I’m always tired, no patience. Today I may get headaches once a week, maybe.
I went to a chiropractor for 3 years and there was no change, in just 2 months here of corrective care the way I feel is unbelievable. Muscle pain is almost gone, it comes and goes, I am beginning to feel feelings I have not felt in years. The doctor is also working on underlying conditions I did not even know I had.
I am still a work in progress, one day at a time, but the results are so good I can’t wait to continue my journey of healing, it’s exciting. I love being able to feel better emotionally without popping a tablet and not constantly walking around whimpering in pain.
Advanced Holistic Health Care has an amazing staff here that truly cares about its clients. I am a spiritual being and I feel the spirituality when I walk in this office. It’s very positive and that brings magnificent healing. I was sick and tired of living as a 29 year old girl on all these pills for different conditions. Today I’m off of the Fibromyalgia medicine Lyrica, I’m off Lamictal, I no longer need Valium or muscle relaxers and my anti-depressant medication has been reduced from Topamax 300mg to 100mg. I am excited to see what the future holds for me at Advanced Holistic Health Care!”

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
High blood pressure (hypertension) is a common condition in which the long-term force of the blood against your artery walls is high enough that it may eventually cause health problems, such as heart disease.
Blood pressure is determined both by the amount of blood your heart pumps and the amount of resistance to blood flow in your arteries. The more blood your heart pumps and the narrower your arteries, the higher your blood pressure.
You can have high blood pressure (hypertension) for years without any symptoms. Even without symptoms, damage to blood vessels and your heart continues and can be detected. Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases your risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke.
High blood pressure generally develops over many years, and it affects nearly everyone eventually. Fortunately, high blood pressure can be easily detected.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help
A study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics examined the effects of chiropractic adjustments on high blood pressure. The study concluded that chiropractic adjustments were an effective and safe alternative to the medical model. The men and women who participated in the study and received chiropractic care experienced a significant decrease in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The individuals who were in the control group and the placebo group did not experience the improvement.

“No Longer on Blood Pressure Medication”
Before coming to Advanced Holistic Health Care, I had gone to other chiropractors and an orthopedic doctor to help with my knee pain. The orthopedic doctor told me I needed a knee replacement surgery. My knees were so bad that I had trouble walking. After 2 months of care at AHH, my knees began to feel better. My knees consistently got better and within a year I no longer have knee pain and my back feels great, WITHOUT knee replacement surgery! Along with knee and back pain I HAD high blood pressure. My doctor told me I would have to be on blood pressure medication for the rest of my life. But with consistent care at AHH and their Lighten Up program I am no longer on blood pressure medication! “

HIGH CHOLESTEROL
Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in your blood. Your body needs cholesterol to build healthy cells, but high levels of cholesterol can increase your risk of heart disease.
With high cholesterol, you can develop fatty deposits in your blood vessels. Eventually, these deposits grow, making it difficult for enough blood to flow through your arteries. Sometimes, those deposits can break suddenly and form a clot that causes a heart attack or stroke.
High cholesterol can be inherited, but it’s often the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices, which make it preventable and treatable. A healthy diet, regular exercise and sometimes medication can help reduce high cholesterol.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help High Cholesterol
Chiropractic care can help reduce cholesterol & improve quality of life!
A case study documented on March 10, 2012 in the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research illustrated changes in cholesterol levels and quality of life in a patient following chiropractic care.
Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. Among the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, dyslipidemia is cited as a major risk factor. Dyslipidemia is a combination of ill-favored cholesterol levels in the circulating blood, namely Low Density Lipoprotien (LDL).
In this case study, a 49-year-old female had neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, low back pain, dyslipidemia and vertebral subluxations. Lipid lowering statins were prescribed by her medical physician, but using her own judgment, she elected not to take them.
The patient was treated with chiropractic spinal adjustments over a six-month time span. During initial care, her total cholesterol improved from 221 to 170 mg/dL. Her LDL went from 153 to 109 mg/dL and HDL went from 33 to 38 mg/dL. Triglycerides improved from 241 to 199 mg/DL and quality of life scores were increased in eight categories! No other interventions were used.
Read how chiropractic helped even MORE patients overcome high cholesterol:
In 1992, a retrospective study was conducted, and cholesterol lab values were taken on ten randomly selected subjects over a three-year period. Results showed that LDL and total cholesterol decreased in 70% of the subjects, bringing 80% of the subjects originally classified as borderline high to high-risk down to desirable levels following chiropractic care!
How this works on a scientific level:
Chiropractic care results in improved function of the nervous system, which can allow the body to improve homeostasis, including improvement of blood lipid levels. The clinical process documented in this report shows that chiropractic care reduces subluxations and stress on the spinal column and nervous system, and as a result of this reduced stress, there is a reduction of “dysponesis” (errors in physical reactions to various stimuli, which as a result, produce functional disorders in the body), which is evidenced by improved quality of life and blood serum cholesterol levels. This is very promising data!

“No More Cholesterol Medicine!”
“When I first started at Advanced Holistic Health Care, I had constant neck pain and high cholesterol. Six months later, I had to go to my medical doctor and get retested for my cholesterol. I did not take any of the cholesterol medicine that was prescribed to me. The doctor was upset that I did it, but I told him that I did a lifestyle change. He said, “That’s not enough”, and that I should take my medication because my results were high. I said, “What are you looking at?” He then took a second look at the computer and said “You are right! You don’t have to take the medication anymore because your cholesterol is good; keep it up and see you in six months!””

HORMONE IMBALANCES
Hormones are your body’s chemical messengers. Produced in the endocrine glands, these powerful chemicals travel around your bloodstream telling tissues and organs what to do. They help control many of your body’s major processes, including metabolism and reproduction.
When you have a hormonal imbalance, you have too much or too little of a certain hormone. Even tiny changes can have serious effects throughout your whole body.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Hormone Imbalances
From the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health comes a case study published on March 12, 2012 documenting the resolution of infertility in a woman previously diagnosed with a case of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a condition in which there is an imbalance of a woman’s female sex hormones. This imbalance can lead to infertility and affects approximately 6.6% of reproductive-aged women.
The authors of the study start by reporting that infertility is a wide-spread problem that affects one in five couples. Of these it is estimated that 60% are due to a female health problem. As a result 9.3 million women seek infertility treatment at some point during their lives. Most of the care sought is medical care.
In this case a 29 year old woman previously diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and infertility sought chiropractic care. The study reports that she had been unable to become pregnant for six months. She had been to a medical practitioner one week earlier but had heard that chiropractic care could be helpful and therefore sought chiropractic care.
A chiropractic examination was performed including a spinal and nerve system analysis. It was determined that subluxations were present in multiple areas of the woman’s spine resulting in nerve system malfunction. A series of specific spinal adjustments were initiated to correct the subluxations.
The study reports that after two months of care the patient was told by her medical doctor that she was pregnant. It was estimated that the woman became pregnant between the second and fifth chiropractic visit. The study reports that the pregnancy was normal and that the woman delivered a healthy 6 pound 7 ounce baby girl after an all natural labor.
In their discussion and conclusion the authors discussed how subluxations could cause infertility by stating, “A subluxation is characterized by a dysfunction of the nervous system that results in widespread physiological changes and altered health status.” The authors continued to discuss the additional benefits in this case by noting, “Following initiation of chiropractic care, the patient not only became pregnant, but also reported improvement in many facets of her life, including improved sleep, better dietary choices, increased water consumption, and an improvement in her ability to exercise.”
In the March 2008, issue of the the scientific periodical, the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT), is a case series documenting specific chiropractic techniques helping women suffering from monthly menstrual pains. This study looked at the effect of specific chiropractic adjustments on women who suffered with monthly menstrual pains from dysmenorrhea.
The study was conducted on 13 women with an average age of 26 years, with the youngest being 20 and the oldest 45. The women included in this study all reported that they had symptoms of primary dysmenorrhea during all of their menstrual cycles during the previous year. All of the women suffered from low back pain, lower abdominal pain, and general abdominal pain each menstrual cycle.
The time period of the study covered 2 menstrual cycles for the women so the effects of care could be looked at for two consecutive cycles. Prior to care, all women were asked to rate their pains so that a baseline could be established. All subjects were asked to initially rate their pain from 0 to 10 with zero being no pain and ten being the “worst pain you could possibly imagine”.
The results of this study showed a considerable improvement for most all of the subjects in each of their two subsequent cycles after chiropractic adjustments. The results for the women showed that their lower abdominal pain decreased from an average rating of 8.3 before care, down to a rating of 5.0 and 3.6 for the subsequent two cycles. Likewise, their general abdominal pain decreased from an average of 7.0 before care to 3.2 and 2.1, and their lower back pain decreased from an average of 6.0 down to 3.2 and 2.7 for subsequent cycles. In addition to the primary symptoms, the women in the study also noted improvements in secondary symptoms which included headaches, fatigue, diarrhea and constipation.
The researchers concluded that menstrual pain associated with primary dysmenorrhea may be alleviated with the specific chiropractic care rendered in this study.

“Hormones Balances – I feel Great!
Before I started coming to Advanced Holistic Health Care, I was a mess. ϑ five years ago I went through a brain stem surgery to remove a tumor. After this highly complex surgery, it left me with many symptoms: depression, weight gain, brainstem pressure, anxiety, headaches, tingling in my legs and arms, brain fog, mood swings, and hot flashes. My hormones were completely unbalanced. I felt like I was dying! I started this program in march thanks to my brother, who knew I needed help fast. Since coming to KH&W I have lost weight, I am happier, more active, and just want to live again. I am a retired nurse and my medical doctor told me I would never work again but I know that I will be working again very soon. I know I am on my way to great health. Thank you Dr. Diana for being cheerful all the time because it now rubs off on me. Thank you for giving me my life back. I am no longer fearful!”

INFERTILITY
If you and your partner are struggling to have a baby, you’re not alone. In the United States, 10% to 15% of couples are infertile. Infertility is defined as not being able to get pregnant despite having frequent, unprotected sex for at least a year for most couples.
Infertility may result from an issue with either you or your partner, or a combination of factors that prevent pregnancy.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Infertility
A May, 2003 study, published in the Journal of Vertebral Research demonstrated a strong link in the resolution of infertility with the initiation of chiropractic care. The study involved 15 females suffering from infertility. Four of the women were already seeking traditional infertility treatment when they started chiropractic care. The study indicated that 100% of the women suffering from infertility had evidence of nerve interference caused by subluxations. The focus on their care was the correction of subluxations. With the correction of subluxations through chiropractic care, all of the women in the study were able to conceive!
INSOMNIA
Insomnia is a common sleep disorder that can make it hard to fall asleep, hard to stay asleep, or cause you to wake up too early and not be able to get back to sleep. You may still feel tired when you wake up. Insomnia can sap not only your energy level and mood but also your health, work performance and quality of life.
How much sleep is enough varies from person to person, but most adults need seven to eight hours a night.
At some point, many adults experience short-term (acute) insomnia, which lasts for days or weeks. It’s usually the result of stress or a traumatic event. But some people have long-term (chronic) insomnia that lasts for a month or more. Insomnia may be the primary problem, or it may be associated with other medical conditions or medications.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Insomnia
In the September 24, 2012 issue of the Journal of Pediatric, Maternal & Family Health Chiropractic comes a documented case study of chiropractic helping a baby girl with chronic otitis media, difficulty sleeping, irritability, and skin sensitivities to clothes or being held and touched.
Otitis Media is the technical name for what most people refer to as an ear ache. The study notes that it has become the most common infection in children that are sick as well as the number one reason antibiotics being prescribed to children. The study author also reports that roughly 25% of all infants have sleeping difficulties. Skin sensitivities also known as tactile hypersensitivity, is where the child exhibits excessive reaction or irritability to touch or clothing.
In this case a 2 year old girl was brought to the chiropractor by her mother with the complaints of chronic ear infections, difficulty sleeping, irritability, and skin sensitivities to either clothes or being held or touched. The history showed that her mother had labor induced a week early, and the birth was traumatic causing the child to be born with a broken collar bone.
The study reported that at the age of 2, the child was taking at least two hours to get to sleep and would not sleep for more than four hours at a time. Additionally, the girl has experienced over 20 ear infections, severe allergies requiring a nebulizer, severe behavior problems including temper tantrums and irritability. The girl had been given multiple rounds of antibiotics by her MD with little or no result. She would also have temper tantrums and exhibit aggressive behavior toward her sister and mother.
A chiropractic examination was performed resulting in the determination that subluxations were present in the girl’s upper neck and upper mid back areas. Specific chiropractic adjustments were initiated for the correction of the subluxations as determined by the exam.
The results documented in this study showed an immediate and positive response by the girl to the chiropractic care. After her first adjustment her mother stated that her daughter was a little less aggressive towards her sister. After the third adjustment her mother reported that the girl was able to sleep through the night.
After two months of care it was noted that the girl who previously did not like to be hugged was coming into the chiropractors office and “hugging everyone”. Her mother also reported that there was no longer an issue with clothes with the minor exception of socks. After 4 months of care the girl was no longer suffering from ear infections
Above is the title of a documented research case study published in the August 27, 2012, issue of the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research. This case reports on the improvement through chiropractic of a young man who was suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder, sleep problems, and long term mid and lower back pain.
In this case, a 19-year-old man went to the chiropractor suffering from Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) which his father reports the young man had been suffering from his whole life. The man’s primary complaint was pain in his mid and lower back that he had been suffering with for five years. The history recorded that the man had organizational and attention issues, and his overall condition was affecting daily activities, school and work.
A chiropractic examination was performed including postural analysis, and spinal x-rays. Based upon the results of the examination, a determination was made that the man had subluxations in the uppermost part of his neck, the atlas vertebra, causing neurological malfunction. Additional assessments were performed to measure physical functioning, sleep, spontaneous and evoked brain activity, and visual responses. The additional assessments were performed before the initiation of chiropractic care, and after care was started in order to objectively measure the patient’s response to his care.
The results of the objective assessments showed improvements in attention, sleep, visual responses, and ADD scores. The improvement was apparent immediately, and showed continual improvement on subsequent tests.
The young man’s mother reported that her son was doing better and was behaving better. The case study reports, “He is more cooperative and is better able to follow through and complete tasks. These include chores at home, school work, and music related activities. He began taking classes at college.”
The young man himself reported that his back, neck, and head pain had resolved, his sleep improved, and he no longer felt “clumsy.” He also reported that he was able to start playing his musical instrument again.

MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system).
In MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath (myelin) that covers nerve fibers and causes communication problems between your brain and the rest of your body. Eventually, the disease can cause permanent damage or deterioration of the nerves.
Signs and symptoms of MS vary widely and depend on the amount of nerve damage and which nerves are affected. Some people with severe MS may lose the ability to walk independently or at all, while others may experience long periods of remission without any new symptoms.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help Multiple Scelrosis
The May 2001 issue of the Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research reported a study of a Multiple Sclerosis patient who was helped with chiropractic care. The study was about a 47-year-old female who first experienced symptoms of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) at age 44. These symptoms included cognitive problems and loss of bladder control.
She then went to a neurologist who diagnosed her with MS after viewing multiple lesions on her MRI exam. Two years later, her condition worsened as she noticed additional symptoms of leg weakness and paresthesias in her arms and legs. Her condition progressively deteriorated without remission. At that point, her neurologist categorized her as having chronic progressive MS and recommended drug therapy.
Finally, the patient decided to begin chiropractic care. A chiropractic examination and X-Rays were performed and it was determined that there was the presence of an upper cervical (upper neck) subluxation. The patient began getting regular adjustments to correct the subluxation.
The patient continued her chiropractic care, as well as check ups with her neurologist. After four months of chiropractic care, all Multiple Sclerosis ( MS) symptoms were absent! A follow-up MRI showed no new lesions as well as a reduction in the intensity of the original lesions.
After a year passed in which the patient experienced NO symptoms of MS, another follow-up MRI was performed. Once again, the MRI showed no new lesions and a continued reduction in intensity of the original lesions. Two years after upper cervical chiropractic care began, all MS symptoms remained absent.
This woman is only one example!
Read on to see how more patients with MS were healed through chiropractic care:
Researchers studied 81 Multiple Sclerosis patients over a five year period of time. 100% of the patients demonstrated upper cervical subluxations.
The researchers found that after chiropractic care, 91% of the M.S. patients found symptomatic improvement! Furthermore the study revealed that following chiropractic care the patients also showed no further progression of the disease! NO FURTHER PROGRESSION OF M.S. OVER A 5 YEAR PERIOD OF TIME!
The researchers concluded that correction to the upper cervical subluxation may arrest and reverse the progression of Multiple Sclerosis! If you have a friend or family member please have them checked by a qualified wellness chiropractor for subluxations. It may save their life!

EVEN MORE Improvement in Multiple Sclerosis Patients Through Chiropractic!
The October 27, 2011 edition of the Journal of Upper Cervical Chiropractic Research reported a study of a patient with Multiple Sclerosis being significantly helped by chiropractic care.
The patient, a 28 year old woman, went to the chiropractor complaining of severe neck pain that had gotten progressively worse following an accident several years earlier. She also suffered from headaches, back, shoulder and arm pain, hip and leg pain, and skin problems. Additionally, she had been previously diagnosed with MS.
In an attempt to relieve her pain, the woman would try lying down with a rolled-up towel under her neck. This would relieve the pain and lessen the headaches, but staying in that position for longer than 15 minutes would cause her to lose consciousness for 8-9 hours.
A chiropractic examination and X-Rays were performed and it was found that subluxations were present in the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar regions of her spine. Specific chiropractic adjustments were initiated to address her subluxations.
Before chiropractic care began, the patient rated her condition as a 2 out of 10, with 10 being the best and 0 being worst. By the fourth visit, she rated herself as a 7 out of 10. She experienced IMPROVEMENTS IN ALL OF HER SYMPTOMS, including the symptoms from her MS.
At the end of the report, the author explained that there were previous studies that showed how chiropractic care improved patients with Multiple Sclerosis. He wrote, “Studies involving larger groups with MS have already been conducted showing favorable response to chiropractic care.”
PREMENSTRUAL SYNDROME (PMS)
Premenstrual syndrome (PMS) has a wide variety of signs and symptoms, including mood swings, tender breasts, food cravings, fatigue, irritability and depression. It’s estimated that as many as 3 of every 4 menstruating women have experienced some form of premenstrual syndrome.
Symptoms tend to recur in a predictable pattern. But the physical and emotional changes you experience with premenstrual syndrome may vary from just slightly noticeable all the way to intense.
How Chiropractic Care Can Help PMS
Studies show surprising benefits from chiropractic care for women who suffer from PMS. In one study, women with histories of PMS were given chiropractic adjustments. The care continued throughout four menstrual cycles and consisted of 5-7 adjustments per month. The women were evaluated in ten different categories of symptoms (irritability, mood swings, tension, ineffectiveness, lack of motor coordination, mental/cognitive functioning, eating habits, variations in sexual drive, overall physical symptoms and social impairment). The subjects showed improvement in all ten categories with significant improvements in the areas of sexual drive, social impairments and mood swings.
In an article published in the Chiropractic Journal of Australia titled Premenstrual Syndrome: a clinical update for the chiropractor, Dr. Walsh states, “A Holistic chiropractic management regime offers the possibility of a safe, effective method of reducing many of the symptoms of PMS.”
THYROID CONDITIONS
Thyroid disorders are conditions that affect the thyroid gland, a butterfly-shaped gland in the front of the neck. The thyroid has important roles to regulate numerous metabolic processes throughout the body. Different types of thyroid disorders affect either its structure or function.
